IN THE STUDIO

All Rotary timepieces are designed from Rotary’s Head Office within the design studio based in Clerkenwell, London.

Matthew O’Neill, Rotary’s Head Designer talks through the design process:

“When designing anything you have to identify a purpose for the product to exist, the end goal must be to create a desirable piece that will appeal to the sophisticated Rotary watch wearer.

A product brief is created and then it’s time to put pencil to paper. This is where I begin to generate ideas that ultimately provide the reference point for my 3D work.

3D design has multiple benefits and, for me, the most important is the ability to manipulate model features in real-time with great precision to immediately assess the proportionality of the design whilst going into extreme levels of detail. Material textures and finishing can be applied to the case, bracelet and dial to produce photo-realistic renders to assess the design as a whole.

It’s an exciting time to be a part of Rotary as it embraces its British heritage of 124 years. Our goal is to continue to produce high quality, reliable and affordable timepieces with great design that people are proud to wear. I want Rotary to have the finest designed watches in the market for our price point”
